Cherries Dipped in Honey
When life's that bowl of cherries, taste their strange
Erotic truth: That fruit bears ovaries
That you're now charged with planting. Odd exchange
To spit wet pits beneath their fruiting trees.
And as you sneeze, please note you're transporting
The bloom's sperm-maker pollen in your nose.
You've joined the boudoir chorus winged folk sing.
In mummy tombs, embalming jars transpose
Fresh honey: Hives aswarm with clockwork bees
Once buzzed their sixty thousand miles to tap
Two million flowers' nectared pollen (sneeze)
That yields one pound of comb drool honey. Map
One worker's lifespan one-twelfth teaspoon makes.
To coat one cherry, that's how much it takes.
Water Lily
Yes, you've disturbed me, landing on my leaf
Where dewdrops dot my flowering. You know,
My daring dragonfly, despite belief
In fairy magic, I can never show
My depths to you. Slick fish that sniff my stalk
And root, gnat-snatching slosh my pink perfume,
Snakes slime my leaves, toads lack your light-touch walk,
Brute turtles grovel, dredging pond scum gloom,
My source. I share your wetland homestead, yet
Your wings I only dream, and scapes above
Your lenses savor I can't picture wet.
I'm dark and vague through water. Though you love
My watercolor image, you can't clutch
My push through surface opened just to touch.

| Brittany Vogel is an award-winning, New Jersey-based painter known for her bold color and beautifully expressive line. News and feature spreads in TapInto and 07030 Magazine.
Vogel's work lives in public spaces as much as private collections. She created a 12-foot interactive mural, Suffragists Marching, in the Columbus Circle subway station, and has delivered artist talks at the Bruce Museum and the Hoboken Historical Museum. Her achievements include the competitive Merit Scholarship from the Art Students League of New York and features in three consecutive Monmouth Museum Annual Juried Exhibitions. Whether she's covering a subway wall or a canvas, Vogel's aim is the same: command attention from across the room, then reward a closer look with a rich, layered story worth lingering over.
Brittany continues to paint, exhibit, and expand the Powerful Women series from her studio in Hoboken, New Jersey, adding new women and new stories to the collection.
